What's Included
A fire pit works best when it's planned as part of the surrounding hardscape rather than added on its own afterward. Installation starts with a compacted gravel base and a non-combustible footing sized to the unit, followed by the wall courses, a steel or masonry liner, and a cap or coping stone finish. Placement accounts for clearance from the house, fencing, and overhanging trees, and any required permitting is handled as part of the process.

  • Wood-Burning or Gas-Ready

    Both configurations are available. Wood-burning is the simpler build and gives the traditional look and feel; gas-ready needs a line run to the fire pit but skips the ash and smoke cleanup. Which one fits depends on the site and how the space will be used — something we talk through during the consultation.

  • Often Paired With

    Many projects pair the fire pit with a paver apron or a curved seat wall, so there's built-in seating without needing separate furniture. It's also a common addition alongside an outdoor kitchen or an existing patio, rather than always being its own standalone project.

From there we work through material and layout options together before anything is built. Plant selections are matched to Charlotte's climate and to the specific light and soil conditions of the yard, not just picked for how they look on day one. The same team that scopes the project sees it through to the final walkthrough, and any required permitting or documentation is handled properly as part of the process, not left for the homeowner to sort out.

About Us

Hortus-Flora is led by Vladimir, who trained as a civil engineer at Bauman Moscow State Technical University, graduating in 2012, and spent several years working in construction, building hands-on experience before starting the original firm with his wife in 2015. That engineering background carries into every retaining wall and drainage plan — not just how something looks, but why it holds up over time. Hortus-Flora LLC continues that same work in Charlotte today, with a small team that also handles planting, floral touches, and coordination with a trusted plumbing partner for backflow-related work.
