Irrigation Services

Whatever's going on with an existing system, here's what we handle:
  • Sprinkler & Valve Repair
Broken heads, damaged lines, and valve replacement for systems that are leaking or not turning on.
  • Controller Troubleshooting
Diagnosing and fixing issues with irrigation timers and smart controllers.
  • Winterization & Spring Startup
Seasonal shutdown before the first freeze, and startup once the season turns.
  • Backflow Preventer Testing
Coordinated with a trusted plumbing partner to meet local code requirements.
Why We Only Work on Existing Systems
Installing a new irrigation system in North Carolina requires a license from the state's irrigation contractor licensing board. Rather than operate outside that requirement, we focus on repairing, maintaining, and modernizing systems that are already in the ground — the work homeowners need most often anyway, since irrigation problems usually show up as something not working right, not as a request for an entirely new system.
How We Work
Most irrigation calls start with something simple — a zone that's not turning on, a head that's broken, a system that never got shut down before last winter. We diagnose the actual cause before recommending a fix, rather than replacing parts that don't need it. If a system is old enough that repeated repairs stop making sense, we'll say so directly rather than keep patching it.

About Us
Hortus-Flora is led by Vladimir, who trained as a civil engineer at Bauman Moscow State Technical University, graduating in 2012, and spent several years working in construction, building hands-on experience before starting the original firm with his wife in 2015. That engineering background carries into every retaining wall and drainage plan — not just how something looks, but why it holds up over time. Hortus-Flora LLC continues that same work in Charlotte today, with a small team that also handles planting, floral touches, and coordination with a trusted plumbing partner for backflow-related work.

Frequently Asked Questions
— Do you install new irrigation or sprinkler systems?
— No — we repair, winterize, and modernize existing systems, and don't install new ones.
— How much does an irrigation repair cost?
— It depends on what's actually wrong with the system — we provide a clear estimate after the on-site diagnosis.
— Do you handle backflow preventer testing?
— Yes, coordinated with a trusted plumbing partner to meet local code requirements.
— What's included in winterization?
— A seasonal shutdown before the first freeze, and a startup once the season turns, so the system isn't damaged by winter weather.
— My system barely works — is it worth repairing, or should I just replace it?
— Most problems come down to something isolated — a valve, a head, a wiring issue — and don't require replacing the whole system. If a system genuinely needs a full rebuild, that's new installation work, which falls outside what we're licensed to do.
— How quickly can you come out for a repair?
— Usually the next day.
