Built for Charlotte's Clay Soil

Charlotte's red clay holds water and shifts more than sandy or loamy soil, which is why base preparation matters more here than the paver style on top. Every patio, driveway, and walkway we build starts with a compacted gravel base sized for how the surface will be used — foot traffic for a patio, vehicle weight for a driveway — with a slight grade to move water away from the house rather than toward it. We work mainly in paver, with natural stone and brick used where they fit the style of the property.

How We Work

Hardscape planning starts with what the surface has to carry and where water goes when it rains. We measure the grade, check how the soil drains, and set the base depth for the load: foot traffic, furniture, or vehicles. Layout and material come next, chosen to fit the house and the way the space will be used. Walls, steps and fire features are built first, and the paving is laid to meet them. The crew that scopes the project builds it and walks it with you at the end.

Site Visit
We walk the yard, measure, and check slope, drainage and access for equipment.
Drone Photos & Video
Aerial photos and video show grades and runoff paths across the whole lot, which is hard to judge from the ground.
Estimate
A written estimate with layout, materials and base specification before anything is scheduled.

Hardscape Contractor in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, and Union County

Hortus-Flora LLC installs paver patios, driveways, walkways, retaining walls, and fire pits in Charlotte and across Mecklenburg and Union counties, NC. Hortus-Flora is run by Vladimir, a civil engineer who graduated from Bauman Moscow State Technical University in 2012. After several years on construction sites, he and his wife founded the original firm in 2015. On hardscape that means the base, the edge restraint and the drainage get the same attention as the pattern on top. Hortus-Flora LLC now works in Charlotte as a small crew. The same people handle planting and floral touches, and a trusted plumbing partner covers anything backflow-related.
